Alum Returns to Share and Motivate History Department and History Classes.

On Monday afternoon, the History Department arranged for Jamie Baker ‘03 to address the Senior Macs and Junior Skips during activity period. Presently, Ms. Baker works for Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-LA) within the senator’s Washington, D.C. office.

Ms. Baker took the time to express the satisfaction she receives from working for the senator and participating in the most admired democracy in the world.

Students asked questions ranging from her typical day to how would an Ursuline Academy student obtain an internship in Washington, D.C.

In the past, Ms. Baker ‘03 has been one of the best friends of the Ursuline Academy Close-Up program. In 2007, Ms. Baker ‘03 went above and beyond the call of duty when she arranged to have her Alma Mater sit in on a committee meeting which resulted in our students meeting some of the most prestigious, high-ranking senators on Capitol Hill.

We would like to thank Ms. Baker ‘03 for taking the time to return home and for sharing her experiences with our juniors and seniors. The Skips and Macs left the assembly realizing that they too could achieve their goals. As Ms. Baker ‘03 informed then at the beginning of her question and answer session, it is ok not to know where you will be in five years because she had no idea she would end up in Washington, D.C. The moral of the story: anything is possible and wonderful, exciting opportunities can appear out of the blue. Be sure to keep your eyes open… we would hate for you to miss the experience / opportunity!

Thank You, Ms. Baker !
