Ursuline Academy hosted the annual fundraising gala, La Fete 281 on Nov. 7, in the Academy’s interior courtyard. La Fete 281 was themed ‘New Orleans & Ursuline – A Recipe for Success!’ Tables set in periwinkle and the sound of Shannon del Corral and the Rob Molinelli Trio set the tone for a relaxing atmosphere of mingling for Champagne Patron Party guests. Cool, crisp weather added in the overall pleasure of the glowing outdoor affair. At 8 p.m., when the Gala began, so did music by Louisiana Spice. The upbeat dancing music kept the crowd moving to a diverse selection of cover songs. Party goers wined and dined courtesy of local restaurants and drinking establishments including Acme Oyster House, Antoine’s, Café Rani, Dickie Brennan’s Steakhouse and Tony Mandina’s to name a few. With a wide variety of silent and live auctions, guests had plenty of opportunities to take home some fabulous items all for a wonderful cause.

11/17/08 Update from Kim Shankle, Principal
After visiting classrooms last week, I was reminded of how special our children and teachers are. The wonder, curiosity, humor and unchecked honesty of children are so refreshing that one cannot help but be uplifted.
I watched and sometimes participated as the two-year-olds made orange cranberry bread; the three year olds prayed, said the pledge, sang songs, practiced handwriting and painted; the kindergarteners read, wrote in their journals, counted with cubes and created snazzy turkeys; the Pre-K students worked at computers, played housekeeping and shopped at the math center with coins. I asked a lot of questions of the little ones, and they were able to answer each one with enthusiasm, complete honesty, and surprising accuracy with astounding patience for Ms. Shankle’s ignorance. One of them even asked me if I had passed Pre-K!
