When we discuss expectations with our teachers at Ursuline Academy, our primary focus, of course, is on classroom teaching. We want our teachers to provide a superior experience for our students, an experience that will help our girls grow intellectually. We want our girls to be challenged to develop their skills and discover that they can transcend their perceived limitations. But we have other demands that we place on our teachers – demands that extend beyond the classroom or the playing fields. Our teachers also help our students grow in all areas of life, meaning that our teachers give more of themselves than the duties that are delineated in their contracts. The fact that our teachers are willing to go above and beyond those expectations should be obvious to anyone who visits our campus.

Our teachers deserve great credit for their commitment to Serviam. As the Catholic Church continues, it is the willingness of the laity to accept roles formerly ceded to the religious that will be crucial to the growth of the Church. We are, after all, all parts of the Mystical Body of Christ, which means that all of us must accept the responsibility that goes with our participation in the Church. I am happy to say that the Academy is doing its part in the continuation of this great tradition.
This week the volleyball team will continue its quest for a state championship when they meet the Academy of the Sacred Heart at the Pontchartrain Center on Wednesday evening at 6:45. We wish them the very best. And we wish the best for our juniors who are participating in the Close-Up program with their trip to Washington D.C. The girls leave for our nation’s capital at 6 a.m. Sunday.
