I want to update the Academy’s stakeholders regarding the concerns so many have voiced about the afternoon pick-up of students. The city’s traffic engineer has given Ursuline some suggestions regarding traffic flow on State Street, and I have forwarded these suggestions to Ms. Kane and the Academy’s Administrative Team. I think that we are on the verge of a much better system that will ensure the safety of the girls during dismissal and ultimately make pick-up much smoother and less stressful.
Last week, the High School faculty met to discuss what we had learned at the Ursuline Education Conference (UEC), and I found our discussion to be extremely fruitful as many salient points were raised by an enthusiastic faculty. We will be working to develop these ideas over the course of the second semester.
I hope most of our constituents were able to see both the Queen’s Players’ production on Friday evening and the Chorus’ concert in the Chapel on Sunday evening. Congratulations to Dody Nolan and Shannon del Corral, respectively, for their incredible work with our girls. That our students are talented is far from a surprise, of course. But the programs these students presented to the Ursuline community speak volumes to their dedication and hard work.
Our basketball team continues its winning ways. Coach Fav’s team is now 12-3, with the Ursuline Invitational Tournament on tap this week. The soccer team split its first two games in district play, winning convincingly over De La Salle and then dropping a close one to Newman. Both teams show the promise of having excellent years.
Finally, I want to take this opportunity to wish everyone in the Ursuline community a very merry Christmas and a blessed New Year. I realize every day that I come to work how blessed I am to be working at this amazing institution. The students, parents and teachers have extended every courtesy and kindness to me during my first six months at the Academy. Please know that all of you will be in my prayers over the holidays and the New Year. I look forward to working with all of you in January. Thanks again for all your support.
