Alumnae Update

Everyone ready for the holidays?!?  A few updates and reminders…

SANTA’S WORKSHOP
Christmas Cheer was spread by all at December 6th ’s SANTA’S WORKSHOP, hosted by the Ursuline Alumnae Association, for children of Ursuline alumnae and parents!  From pony rides and photos with Santa, to holiday music by Dennis & Company and book signings & story time by author of Goodnight NOLA, Cornell P. Landry, smiles and laughter filled the decked out halls of Ursuline on Sunday.  CLICK HERE to check out photos from the event!

HIGH SCHOOL CHRISTMAS CONCERT
Come celebrate the magic and joy of the holidays by attending the annual Christmas concert of the Ursuline Academy High School Chorus this Sunday, December 13 at 7 p.m. in the Shrine!  Featuring this year’s theme, “The Spirit of Christmas,” traditional, spiritual and gospel songs of the season will be sung.  Some alums from recent years have also been invited to participate in the concert and will be performing with the students that evening. THE FEAST OF OUR LADY OF PROMPT SUCCOR
As alumnae, we all remember being taught that the Feast of Our Lady of Prompt Succor is held each year on January 8.  In keeping with a 195-year-old promise that has been solemnly kept without fail, we honor the Patroness of Louisiana with an annual Mass and reception in the cafeteria.  Please mark your calendars now for this year’s celebration on Friday, January 8 at 4 p.m.in the National Shrine of Our Lady of Prompt Succor.  If you’d like to read more about the History of Our Lady, and the Sweetheart statue, you may CLICK HERE.

REUNIONS
Ready to reunite?!?  If your graduation year ends in a zero or a five, then 2010 is an anniversary year for your class!!  If you would like to volunteer to help coordinate your reunion, please CLICK HERE to view the section on the Reunions web page entitled “Tips and Planning Ideas,” and contact the Alumnae Office at 504.861.9114. or alumnae@ursulineneworleans.org.  If you already have plans in place, please inform the Alumnae Office, so that we may assist you in any way possible.

A reminder that Sr. Carolyn will be celebrating her GOLDEN JUBILEE on Sunday, January 3, 2010.  Please CLICK HERE to view the invitation.  All are welcome to attend the 9:30 a.m. Mass and reception following.  However, please be sure to R.S.V.P. directly to cbrockland@hotmail.com or 504.866.3141 by December 18!  We hope you are able to join us in celebration of Sr. Carolyn and her fifty years of dedication and contribution to the Ursuline community.

Reminder!  SCIENCE FAIR JUDGING
A reminder that On January 20, 2010 the high school science fair will be held and the Science Department has invited alumnae to participate as judges!  They are looking for alumnae with a variety of scientific or technical backgrounds such as:  medicine and health, engineering, psychology, physics, math and plant sciences.   Working professionals, professors, graduate students and college seniors or juniors are welcomed.  The judging will take place in St. Ursula’s Hall from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Please contact Erin Plauche’ as soon as possible if you are available at eplauche@ursulineneworleans.org.

SCHOOL HOLIDAYS
For your information, Ursuline will be closed for the Christmas holidays beginning Monday, December 21.  We will reopen again when classes resume on Monday, January 4, 2010!
