Dear fellow members of the Ursuline Alumnae Association,

A few updates from the Alumnae Office…

FEAST OF ST. ANGELA MERICI
Today, January 27, is the Feast of St. Angela Merici, the foundress of the Order of St. Ursula.  The students celebrated, as they do each year, by going out into the city of New Orleans and putting Serviam into action for the greater good of the community, concluding their day with an all-Academy Mass in the Shrine.

Currently in its 110th year, the Ursuline Alumnae Association of New Orleans’ motto is Cor Unum, Latin for “one heart.”  The phrase comes from the following quotation by St. Angela Merici: “My last word to you… is that you live in harmony, united together, all of one heart and will.  Be bound to one another by the bond of charity, esteeming one another, helping one another, bearing with one another in Jesus Christ.”

Please take a moment to remember today how St. Angela’s determination and vision laid the groundwork for our benefit, as well as for those who have come before us and for those who will carry on after us.

 CHICAGO and HOUSTON
Ursuline would like to visit the areas of Chicago and Houston for our next two chapter gatherings!  If you reside within those areas and have not been receiving mail from us lately, perhaps we do not have your current mailing information.  Please e-mail the Alumnae Office at alumnae@ursulineneworleans.org to update your information, so that we may include you on any mailings regarding gatherings.  Also, if you would like to be involved in the planning in any way, please let us know!

CAREER DAY
On Wednesday, March 3, 2010, from 8 a.m. – 10 a.m., the high school students will have their annual CAREER DAY. As in years past, the Guidance Department is inviting alumnae to participate!  They are looking for alumnae with a variety of occupations, specifically an archaeologist, author, business owner, chef, chiropractor, dermatologist, someone in the fashion industry, forensic investigator, geologist, journalist, musician, nutritionist, performing/theatre artist, psychologist, psychiatrist, urban planner and someone involved in the radio industry.  If you are available to come share your experiences and expertise with our girls, and show them firsthand what an Ursuline girl can accomplish, we would be most appreciative.  Please contact the Alumnae Office as soon as possible at alumnae@ursulineneworleans.org or 504.861.9114 to volunteer your time.  Thank you in advance for your time.

Oh, and one more thing… GOOOOOO SAINTS!

Thank you,

THE FEAST OF OUR LADY OF PROMPT SUCCOR and SR. CAROLYN MARIE BROCKLAND, OSU
The 195th Eucharistic celebration of the Feast of Our Lady of Prompt Succor was held on her annual Feast Day, January 8th, in the Shrine at 4:00 p.m.  Archbishop Gregory Aymond served as the principal celebrant of the Mass.  The homily was given by Abbot Justin Brown, OSB, and a reception followed in the cafeteria.

Earlier that morning, immediately following the 8:15 a.m. Mass at which the entire academy was present, Sr. Carolyn Marie Brockland, prioress of the Ursuline Community of New Orleans, was honored in celebration of her Golden Jubilee.  She was given congratulatory flowers, handmade cards and gifts on behalf of the academy in gratitude for 50 years of dedication and service to Ursuline.  Alumnae Board President, Helen Franz Eshleman ’77, also presented Sr. Carolyn Marie a gift on behalf of the Alumnae Association.
