Alumnae Update

Dear fellow members of the Ursuline Alumnae Association of New Orleans,

Just a few updates…

Monthly EUCHARISTIC ADORATION, Weekly ROSARY and Daily MASS
I’d like to remind everyone that during the school year, all are welcomed to attend monthly Eucharistic Adoration (the first Thursday of each month) and weekly Rosary (every Tuesday at 8 a.m.) in the National Shrine of Our Lady of Prompt Succor.  Also, did you know that the Shrine offers Mass on a daily basis throughout the whole year?  You may CLICK HERE for the 2010-11 schedule of Adoration and the Rosary, as well as, the daily Mass schedule.  Please join in.

SERVIAM AT WORK
Our own Monique Pilie ’83 was featured on “CBS Evening News with Katie Couric” yesterday evening for the work that she has done planting trees all around New Orleans post-Katrina.  The segment is posted on CBS’ website today.  CLICK HERE to read the article & watch the video!
Monique was also spotlighted as our Alumna of the Month in March 2008.  CLICK HERE to re-read how Ursuline helped lead her to the place she’s in today.

SERVIAM ANNUAL FUND (SAF) 2010-11
By now you should have all received your 2010-11 SAF packets in the mail with a brochure describing how your gifts helped Ursuline this past year.  To those who contributed, we truly thank you.  We also thank those of you who have responded to this year’s drive so promptly by sending in your contributions and pledges already!  If you have not already donated, classmates will be contacting you soon as a reminder to send in your pledge card.  REMEMBER – if you mail in your card, or pledge online, before September 24, 2010 your name will be removed from the call list of the Phon-A-Thon, which takes places September 25 – 30!  Please consider making a contribution today.

HERB BLESSING
On Sunday, August 15, the Feast of the Assumption, the Alumnae Association hosted the 14th Annual Blessing of the Herbs!  Current 2nd and 3rd graders participated by carrying nosegays containing fresh herbs straight from the Ursuline Herb Garden, made by some members of the high school student council.  The bouquets of herbs were blessed by our celebrant, Fr. Francis Berner, and placed on the altar by the children after Communion.  Following Mass, the congregation moved into the main courtyard for a brief blessing of potted herbs to be planted in our herb garden.  A reception of refreshments, mostly made with herbs, and donated by our alumnae, parents and friends of Ursuline, was held in the cafeteria.

Many thanks to all who contributed, especially to our Chairs of the event, Wendy Farrelly ’76, Donna Peyroux Taylor ’76 and Coleen Landry, HM! See below for photos taken by Pat Garin Photography.
