The seventh grade students recently completed their chapter on the French Colonization of Louisiana and the arrival of the Ursuline nuns.  To enhance their knowledge, they visited the Ursuline Museum.  Mrs. Mary Lee Harris, our former Director of Development and active alum, was on hand to share her vast information about the Ursulines and the artifacts in the museum.  The girls thoroughly enjoyed their visit and are looking forward to returning soon!

The Kindergarten class and the high school Biology I Honors class teamed up together to share their knowledge of plants. The Biology class recently began a unit in genetics. Their first project involves designing an experiment using plants to investigate concepts from the unit. To complete this project, the students need a garden to grow their plants. Enter Kindergarten class. The early childhood students offered the high school students space in their garden. In return, the biology students offered to teach them about microscopes and show them what their plants look like under the microscope. Both classes decided to plant the flowers together.

On October 14, in the Early Childhood Studio, both classes learned how to make biodegradable pots out of newspaper and then planted flower seeds. In the Biology Lab, the high school students taught the kindergarten students how to use a microscope. Both classes will now monitor the growth of the plants as they continue to investigate plants on their respective levels.

IMG_0176 Faye Daigle, a seventh grader, placed first in  Poetry at the Junior Beta State Competition in Lafayette, Louisiana.  She is now eligible to participate in the National Competition in Nashville, Tennessee in June.

Bandage of Hope
by Faye Daigle

When our world is crying out

In sadness and in pain

When we feel we cannot stop

Our tears that flow like rain

We must give ourselves to the world

And let our hearts sing loud

We must show other nations

How we as one stand proud

Disaster can strike anywhere

From Tokyo to Tennessee

But the one place it cannot wreck

Is in our Beta family

Around the world every day

A bandage will we place

A bandage made of hope and support

To save the human race

Sure we cannot stop

The power of nature when it will come

But into darkness and despair

Beta will never succumb

We are Beta

We are strong

When we help others

We can never go wrong
