Saturday was no ordinary Saturday, at least not for the Ursuline Track Team. Five girls participated in the 2012 LHSAA State Track and Field meet.
At 11am, Elissa Parker and Kristina Hugel begin their warmups. Both girls were excited about their first state meets. Kristina made a great showing and finish 7th in the javelin. Elissa set the bar high with her first jump jumping 18′2. She finish the long jump competition placing third, breaking her own personal and school records. Great job Elissa! What a way to end a senior year! Ursuline is so proud of you.
The fun had only just begun. Shortly after the long jump, Caroline Knecht began to prepare for the 1600 meter run. She began her warmup around 2:45 PM. Her nerves were in check, and she began to prepare mentally. All the girls lined up on the track , the gun sounded, and the race began. Caroline started the race in third and remained in third until the last 200 meters. Caroline sprinted the last 200 meters passing the two girls ahead of her. She finished the race with the time of 5:20.54, capturing the state title championship. Congratulation Caroline finishing first and breaking her own school record.
The day ended with 1600 meter relay. With a delay in the meet due to weather, the girls: Elissa, Caroline, Alex Vicari, and Kealani Gaspard anxiously waited for the weather to pass. After waiting for over an hour, the girls began to warm up. This was an exciting race from the beginning to the end. Elissa led off, handing the baton to Caroline, Caroline held the place and handed off to Alex who brought the girls back into third. Alex handed off to Kealani and she maintained their position to the end. The girls finish third and set a new school record running 4:11.00.
Congratulations ladies! Ursuline is so proud of you all. Thank you for a wonderful season.
