Pep Rally Honors Spring Sports Athletes

Spring sports athletes were honored at with a pep rally. Senior Mac cheerleaders, Lionettes, and golfers were presented with flowers as part of their Senior Day celebration. The cheerleaders performed for the student body. The Lionette seniors had prepared a special dance and thanked Mrs. Schmitt for her work with the program for the past five years. Finally, Mr. Walters celebrated the top students in his annual Mad Two Minutes competition.

Golf Qualifies for State

We’re made state! They took 4 teams. We finished 4th. Holland, Syd, and Meg all shot personal best scores.

Before the tournament began, we knew we had to beat either Lakeshore or Mount Carmel to get in. We defeated both.

Next match is state tournament at Alexandria on the 25th and 26th.

We also just found out that we won the inaugural Metro Tournament (the one that was suspended last week due to rain and finished today). Quite a day!

The UA golf team qualified for the state tournament after defeating both Lakeshore and Mount Carmel. Holland Ledet, Sydni Sumas, and Megan Johnson all shot personal best scores.

The state tournament in Alexandria on April 25th and 26th.

Additionally, the golf team won the inaugural Metro Tournament (which was suspended last week due to rain and finished on Tuesday). Quite a day!

Golf Match Suspended Due to Weather

Due to the inclement weather, the Metro Golf Tournament was suspended until Tuesday the 10th. The girls will play the remainder of the holes during the Regional Tournament. The scores from the holes they didn’t play today will be calculated from the scores on those holes on Tuesday, and an individual and team champion will be crowned at that time.

The team perform very well this past Friday at the Health Quest Physical

Therapy Invitational at Dutch Town High School. Lauren Parker place 1st in

the High Jump breaking her own record jumping 5′3, Elissa Parker placed 1st

in the long jump. Kristina Hugle placed 2nd in the discus breaking the

school record throwing 81′10″ feet.

Caroline Knecht placed 2nd in the 1600 meter run breaking her own record

and ran 5:37.60. The 1600 meter relay tied the school record running 4:22.30.

placing 4th, the members on the relay team were Elissa Parker, Kealani

Gaspard, Caroline Knecht, Alex Thomas. The girls did an excellent job this

week. There were 13 teams competing and Ursuline placed 6th overall.

Our next meet is this Thursday at East Jefferson High School.

Hole in One for Sumas

Sydni Sumas hit a hole in one on a par four as Ursuline defeated Sacred Heart on Thursday, March 29. Sumas drove the green for a total of 252 yards on the shot. Megan Johnson also contributed to the team’s success. The Lions fell to Dominican in the same match.

Golf Defeats Mount Carmel

Congrats to the Ursuline Golf Team for their first ever victory over Mt. Carmel. The team was led by Sydni Sumas and Megan Johnson.

McLoughlin ‘10 Leads In Final Match; Golf Takes Top 10 Finish at State

On behalf of the Ursuline Academy family, we would like to congratulate Coach Gardner and the members of the Ursuline Golf team for another impressive showing during the 2011 golf season. Needing a strong performance from its key players during the Regional Golf Meet, Ursuline qualified for another appearance in the State Meet. The team members were elated knowing that they were headed to the biggest golf match of the year, however, they remained focused and determined to do their best.

At the LHSAA State Golf Match, Ursuline was led by senior Charlotte McLoughlin ‘11. In her final round as a member of the Ursuline Golf team, McLoughlin ‘11 shot a 99 to break the 100 mark (great job, Char). Following closely behind McLoughlin ‘11 was freshman Sydni Sumas ‘14 who shot a 103 and junior Holland Ledet ‘12 coming through witha 114. Tabitha Dalgo ‘12 and Francesca Holt ‘12 contributed two solid rounds with scores of 131 and 157 respectively.

The team members had to not only battle the state’s best golfers, but also a tremendous wrath of Mother Nature. Postponed by morning rain, the state match fell victim to a very impressive wind storm. Check out the pictures to see the conditions our players were forced to compete in during the match.

Golf Team Delivers Big at Regionals; Headed to State Meet AGAIN!

Their "drive" for a state championship is starting to pay off in 2011.

Congratulations to Coach Gardner and the Ursuline Golf team for its impressive performance at yesterday’s Regional Golf Meet. The team’s Top 5 finish qualifies it for a spot in the 2011 LHSAA State Golf Meet. Great Job, Ladies!

The State Meet will be held on April 26th and 27th in Zachary, Louisiana at the Coppermill Golf Club. Though the team does not receive as much attention as some of the other sports within the Athletic Department, this gold team has continued to work hard and improve over the past years under the leadership of Head Coach John Gardner. Coach Gardner could not be any more proud of his team members for stepping up in the big match and qualifying for state. This year’s team consists of Charlotte McLoughlin ‘11, Tabitha Dalgo ‘12, Holland Ledet ‘12, Francesca Holt ‘12, Megan Johson ‘13, and Sydni Sumas ‘14.

Coach Gardner is looking forward to another strong showing at the State Golf Meet in April

Congratulations to Coach Gardner and the UA Golf team for starting the season 2-0. Following a win over Dominican High School, our Lions grab their drivers and irons and attacked the course against Academy of the Sacred Heart. Behind the strong play of senior Charlotte McLoughlin ‘11 and junior Holland Ledet ‘12, Ursuline defeated Sacred Heart to remain perfect early in the season.

Hello to all of our athletes!

This is a quick reminder that before you can become a member of one of our many excellent teams, you must submit all of the necessary paperwork. You can find the needed forms on the STUDENT LIFE section of our web site (click the High School tab on the main page and you will see the student life link).

Remember, you can not participate in ANY aspect of the team (practices, meetings, etc) without first submitting your forms to either your Head Coach or to Athletic Director Coach Bonnaffee.
