With Exodus of Last Year’s Senior Class, New Starting Lineup Getting Noticed

Barre '14 is Quickly Establishing Herself As a Major Threat within High School Volleyball

Congratulations to Coach Juan and the Ursuline Academy Volleyball program for another strong showing during the 2010 pre-season. Last week, the team traveled to McGehee to participate in a three team scrimmage. This week, the team invited two teams to its home court to participate in the last of the scrimmage games prior to the Chalmette Jamboree. With the season opener quickly approaching, Coach Juan and our Lions are attempting to put all the pieces together and to map out a strategy that will return the team to Kenner, La in November for the rare opportunity to DEFEND a state championship.

The pictures listed below were from the 4:00 pm and 6:00pm games. Thee are pictures from the varsity game and from the junior varsity game therefore be sure to congratulate both teams for a strong effort. In the 4:00pm, our Lions faced-off against a one time district rival Sacred Heart bringing back memories of the old days when the two teams would keep you on the edge of your seat and leaving you with an anxiety attack. In the 6:00pm game, our Lions faced off against Central Catholic High School.

When it was all said and done, Ursuline Academy fans walked off of the court feeling pretty good about the progress of this year’s team. With a strong fan base, and a strong desire to repeat, expect to see UA standing tall at the big dance!

Coach Juan and Ursuline Volleyball Have Friendly Pre-Season Workout with McGehee and Mount Carmel

The defending Division III State Champs Are Putting Pieces Together for a Possible Repeat

The defending Division III State Champs Are Putting Pieces Together for a Possible Repeat

On Friday afternoon, the defending Division III State Champions participated in itsfirst competitive match of the season. What made today’s game worth attending was that for the first time ever, when someone says “The defending state champions” they could be speaking of our Ursuline Academy Volleyball team. Last year’s history making event was special and will forever be treasured, however, that elusive trophy is now securely housed in the MBO Athletic Center. When Ursuline Volleyball walks through the MBO and passes the trophy case, they are no longer looking at the trophy that is there, but instead, are looking to put a second trophy side by side with the most special award our athletic department has in its possession.

Coach Juan and his team has a tall order ahead of them. They must find a way to fill the void left by the departure of one of the Academy’s most athletic senior classes. With many of last year’s superstars now enrolled in colleges across the state, Ursuline Volleyball will need a number of last year’s players to step up and take a leadership role on the team. The good news for Ursuline fans is that this year’s team looks very explosive and talented. With Marci Holstein ‘11, Jeanette Rimmer ‘12, Courtney Deidrich ‘12, Lauren Barre ‘14, Rachel Rabalais ‘13 and more, the odds of Ursuline Academy returning to Kenner, La in November appear to be very good. All the team wants is the chance to defend its title .. after watching the team during its first tri-scrimmage, we are confident our Lions will get the opportunity to stand face to face with the state’s best and defend its title.

Good Luck, Ursuline Volleyball!

May the celebration never end

May the celebration never end

After their huge win in the LHSAA Division III championship game, fans and friends of Ursuline Academy Volleyball partied for hours in the parking lot. It was a tailgating party that would have made the New Orleans Saints fans proud. Fans lined up and congratulated each player on this year’s team. With food and drinks supplied for everyone, it was a great ending to a perfect day. Everyone had a smile on their face and a story to tell. It is safe to say we will all remember this evening for years to come.

Once again, congratulations to Ursuline Academy Volleyball
