Saturday was no ordinary Saturday, at least not for the Ursuline Track Team. Five girls participated in the 2012 LHSAA State Track and Field meet.
At 11am, Elissa Parker and Kristina Hugel begin their warmups. Both girls were excited about their first state meets. Kristina made a great showing and finish 7th in the javelin. Elissa set the bar high with her first jump jumping 18′2. She finish the long jump competition placing third, breaking her own personal and school records. Great job Elissa! What a way to end a senior year! Ursuline is so proud of you.
The fun had only just begun. Shortly after the long jump, Caroline Knecht began to prepare for the 1600 meter run. She began her warmup around 2:45 PM. Her nerves were in check, and she began to prepare mentally. All the girls lined up on the track , the gun sounded, and the race began. Caroline started the race in third and remained in third until the last 200 meters. Caroline sprinted the last 200 meters passing the two girls ahead of her. She finished the race with the time of 5:20.54, capturing the state title championship. Congratulation Caroline finishing first and breaking her own school record.
The day ended with 1600 meter relay. With a delay in the meet due to weather, the girls: Elissa, Caroline, Alex Vicari, and Kealani Gaspard anxiously waited for the weather to pass. After waiting for over an hour, the girls began to warm up. This was an exciting race from the beginning to the end. Elissa led off, handing the baton to Caroline, Caroline held the place and handed off to Alex who brought the girls back into third. Alex handed off to Kealani and she maintained their position to the end. The girls finish third and set a new school record running 4:11.00.

Elissa Parker lead team in regionals setting a new school record in the long jump jumping 17′10 feet long. She tied for first place and she is heading to State. She also participated in the 300 m hurdles setting a new school record 49.11 and placing fourth.
Caroline Knecht placed 1st in the 1600 meter run setting a new school record of 5:28 and was the second leg on the 4×400 meter relay.
The 4×400 meter relay team placed first and will compete next at the State Meet. Parker ran the lead off leg with Knecht following. Alex Thomas and Kealani Gaspard were the third and fourth legs of the relay team. They ran an outstanding time of 4:11.95, smashing their own school record of 4.20.70.
Kris Hugel will compete in the State Meet in javelin.

The track team ended their regular season with a bang! Ursuline is very proud of the girls. The district meet is Tuesday, April 17, at East Jefferson High School. The field events begin at 4:00 PM, and running begins at 6:30 PM. Please come out and support the team.

Spring sports athletes were honored at with a pep rally. Senior Mac cheerleaders, Lionettes, and golfers were presented with flowers as part of their Senior Day celebration. The cheerleaders performed for the student body. The Lionette seniors had prepared a special dance and thanked Mrs. Schmitt for her work with the program for the past five years. Finally, Mr. Walters celebrated the top students in his annual Mad Two Minutes competition.

The Track and Field team placed sixth our of 13 teams at the Health Quest Physical Therapy Invitational held at Dutch Town High School on Friday, March 30. In the Field events, Lauren Parker place first in the High Jump breaking her own record by jumping 5′3′. Elissa Parker placed first in the long jump. Kris Hugel placed 2nd in the discus breaking the school record by throwing 81′10″. In Track, Caroline Knecht placed second in the 1600 meter run, breaking her own record by running 5:37.60. The 1600 meter relay tied the school record, 4:22.30, for which they placed fourth, Members on the relay team were Elissa Parker, Kealani Gaspard, Caroline Knecht, and Alex Thomas. The next meet is Thursday, April 4, at East Jefferson High School.Congratulations to all the girls who participated in the track
meet this past Friday. They placed 2nd overall out of eight teams and are bringing home a trophy to add to the case. We are so proud of them!

The next meet is this coming weekend, March 23-24, at Tad Gormley stadium, the Allstate Sugar Bowl Track & Field Classic. This is a two day meet. Our first event on Friday is the Girls’ Discus, Girls’ High Jump, 4×800m relay, 100m hurdles prelims,100m dash, 400m dash, 800m dash, 200m dash, and 300m hurdles prelim. The meet starts at 4:00pm on a rolling time schedule.
